I CREATE Lab Exploration
Standard 1: "Empowered Learner. Students understand the fundamental concepts of technology operations, demonstrate the ability to choose, use and troubleshoot current technologies, and are able to transfer their knowledge to explore emerging technologies."
Standard 5: Computational Thinker. Students develop and employ strategies for understanding and solving problems in ways that leverage the power of technological methods to develop and test solutions.
Introduction
During today's ICREATE Lab Exploration, we were able to look at a ton of incredible machines that create various things that can be used in a classroom. A few of the machines that were presented to us were an embroidery machine, sewing machine, a cricut, large format printer/vinyl cutter, 3d printer, laser cutter/engraver and many more. I personally was very interested with the 3d printer, embroidery machine, and the vinyl cutter.
Embroidery Station Exploration
While we were exploring the objects in the ICREATE lab, a small group of us experienced technical difficulties with the embroidery machine with your ICREATE guide and had to problem solve together how to fix it. At first, we thought that it may have been that the thread was too tight, so we checked both the top and the bottom threads to make sure that was the problem. It turns out it was not the problem after we adjusted the thread a couple more times. We came to a conclusion of trying to see if the thread was threaded properly through each hole the machine has. After rechecking, we saw that the thread was not in one of the holes properly and had to rethread it. We finally got the embroidery machine to work and our end result was an embroidered pig. I will provide a video with the machine having technical difficulties.

Hi Jasmine,
ReplyDeleteThe incorporation of the pictures and the videos helped me visualize what you have experienced in the lab. Your group's problem solving adventure seemed very educating. I have no clue on how those machines work, so I would I have been lost. Your experience is great learning and teaching point for your future students. Great job!
Hi Jasmine! I really enjoyed reading your blog! all of the pictures really made it easy to follow along! Your standard fits nicely with the activity, I used Standard 1: "Empowered Learner. Students understand the fundamental concepts of technology operations, demonstrate the ability to choose, use and troubleshoot current technologies, and are able to transfer their knowledge to explore emerging technologies."
ReplyDeleteHi Jasmine! I really enjoy your blog and also used standard 5 for my blog. I think you could also use standard 1: "Empowered Learner" for this blog as well.
